Our DIY Home Office Remodel Revealed!

Before and after photos of our DIY home office remodel

If you’ve been following Mrs. Millennial on Facebook, then you know that for the past couple months, we’ve been working on a full DIY home office remodel — specifically, turning an extra bedroom into a useful, multi-functional office space.

This was a huge project, including:

  • Scraping old popcorn ceilings
  • Re-texturing the ceiling
  • Painting the ceiling and walls
  • Installing new baseboards
  • Installing crown moulding
  • New carpet
  • New furniture & decor

…and we did every piece of it (except for the carpet) completely ourselves! So now that all the hard work has resulted in a final project, please enjoy these photos documenting the changes:

And finally…..FINISHED!

We’re calling this room “the office” but it’s actually quite a multi-purpose room:

  • With nice large desks for both of us, for when we work from home, it does fulfill the “office” need quite well.
  • The couch actually coverts to a full-size bed, making this a 2nd guest room space.
  • The room is also our designated “game room” with the hubby’s video game systems and surround sound hooked to the tv so that he can game to his heart’s content, without clogging up our main living room, plus the shelves in the closet are now used for board game storage.
  • The closet has been converted to a “sewing nook” with my sewing table and supplies tucked in one organized, yet out-of-the-way spot.

I’m so pleased with how it turned out. Are you thinking about doing a DIY home office remodel? While it was definitely a LOT of work, I say go for it. We saved a ton of money by doing so much of the work ourselves, and got to learn a bunch in the process as well. Just be prepared for a LOT of visits to the hardware store…we went to Lowe’s 9 times during the course of this project.

So, what do you think? Tell me your thoughts in the comments! I, for one, am loving it!
